Ruth Brill

Ruth is a freelance choreographer and Artistic Director. She began her training in Kent in the Cecchetti Method with Judith Wilson at the age of 3. She was a Cecchetti Associate and Scholar. She won the Junior, Middle and Senior Mabel Ryan Awards and the Barbara Geoghegan competition. She continued her training at Tring Park School for the Performing Arts and English National Ballet School.  Whilst at Tring she trained with Eve Pettinger focusing on the Advanced 2 syllabus. She was invited by Richard Glasstone to go to Paris to demonstrate the Cecchetti Advanced 2 work and took part in the CICB competition in Calgary. 

Ruth went on to dance with English National Ballet (2007-2012) and Birmingham Royal Ballet (2012-2019).  Whilst dancing professionally at BRB, she worked with Diane van Schoor for 3 years studying the Cecchetti Diploma work for the Cecchetti Legacy film project.

As a choreographer, Ruth created numerous commissions for Birmingham Royal Ballet (including Rhapsody in Blue, Matryoshka, Arcadia and Peter and The Wolf). She has also choreographed for English National Ballet, New English Ballet Theatre and The Royal Ballet School, amongst others. Her dance film work includes SNAPSHOT (starring Viola Pantuso from the Royal Ballet), Bodies (starring Brandon Lawrence from Birmingham Royal Ballet), and Momenta (for English National Ballet). She has also created pieces for The Rugby World Cup Welcoming Ceremony, BBC Dance Passion and Heathrow Airport’s Christmas Campaign. 

Ruth is the Artistic Director of London Children’s Ballet. She re-staged Cathy Marston’s production of Ballet Shoes (2019) and has since commissioned the creation of Anne Of Green Gables (2022), Snow White (2023), Secret Garden (2024) and Ella’s Big Chance - A Jazz-Age Cinderella (2025) for the company. Ruth is passionate about creating narrative work and has also completed a course in Dramaturgy. Ruth has a strong interest in teaching and outreach work and has delivered development programmes internationally.

Ruth is honoured to have joined the Cecchetti Society Trust as a Trustee in 2024.
